Hi,
My husband & I are just repainting our bedroom, we used a Benjamin Moore paint--Chocolate Fondue, it's a very dark brown color. I have bedding that has red has a main color but also in it is a toffee color with a hint of bronze & a very dark brown stripe. I was wondering what could I accent the room with to create a very calming, romantic, sensual effect. My furniture is solid wood with a medium oak color as the flooring is a medium oak hardwood. We have 4" trims around the doors & 6" baseboards which are all painted a yellow-cream color.

We were thinking of adding a canopy of some sort or is that style to old?? We will take all suggestions seriously, everything is greatly appreciated.

thanks so much :)

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your comment.

I would choose for white or red colors.
(I don't know what "french" blue exactly looks like, but if it is dark blue (kind of navy blue?) I would buy white curtains and accessories for a "clear" design. Maybe silver accessoires looks pretty too.
And for a playful effect I think some striking or vivid colors doin it great. (for example red, yellow, orange, applegreen)

Hope this answer gives you any new ideas for your bedroom ;-)

Send me a pic when you've decided your new bedding/curtains/accessoires colors. (So I can see what "french" blue is ;-) and ofcourse with your new chosen style)

Lonneke, Your iseas are great and now that dark blue walls were brought up..... Our master beadroom has dark french blue walls. We have had gold curatins and bed coverings for too long. Any ideas of color change? I do not want to paint the walls, only change the bedding, curtains and accessories. Thanks, Lisa

@MaDonna:

I think that your man is right and when you also make red walls, it all becomes very red.
Since you use a lot of red in your bedroom already, the colour red will dominate and has then no longer the romantic effect that you wants reach with it.

Hold your accessories or other details coloured and give your walls a neutral color.

I will choose for a creme-like or quite dark blue colour myself, but Grey, ivory white, anthracite (or something more lightly) or perhaps quite light yellow coloured walls?

(I had a picture of a dark blue wall with red but I can't put it in a comment, so I will send it you by mail)

Greetings Lonneke

This isn't so much a comment as a question. My husband and I are redecorating our bedroom and I've already picked out my bedding, curtains, lighting etc. We are going with a sort of Burlesque or Bordello style. The bedding is red and black, very extravagant looking and sensual. The curtains are a deep rich red velvet with gold tie backs. We are using scented candles, and soft lighting to create a warm sensual glow in the room. The only thing we haven't decided on is the paint color for the walls. Right now they are Burnished gold and we are both tired of that color as we've had it for some time now. I am leaning toward red because I think it will make a bold statement, it will translate the overall theme we are going for, and it just feels like romance to me. It makes me think of long stemmed red roses. My husband thinks the color would be too bold a choice and is afraid it would make the room too dark. My question is, do you have any suggestions on a paint color that will go good with the design elements I mentioned? And also, is red too bold a color for the walls? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
